Between February 2002 and March 2003 I circumnavigated 12,504 miles around the Australian continent on my bicycle, or push bike as they say there. After that I went to New Zealand for three months and met up with a friend and ended up pushing the total mileage to 14,115.7 miles (22717.02 km). I spent 269 days on my bike, 272 days not on my bike, and getting 67 flat tires over those 17 months.
I started and ended my 13 month lap around Australia at Luna Park in St. Kilda/Melbourne.. The distance around Australia (including Tasmania) ended up being about 20,281km (12,600 miles).
One fun thing I did during my trip was to visit six "confluences", which is where a whole-numbered latitude/longitude mark intersects for The Degree Confluence Project.

Spent the morning cleaning rooms and doing stuff around Robin's Treethouse.
We all went downtown today and had coffee, then off to the field to play softball. There was a skate park there (as usual for just about any Australian or New Zealand town with over 4 people). MCQ asked a kid if he could borrow his board. "Dunno, it is his", pointing to another kid. Robin asked the kid if MCQ could borrow his board. "Nah, cause he's using it", pointing back to the first kid. MCQ just snickered and said that was the same kinda crap he pulled at that age. We hit the ball around for awhile then walked up to the pier. Robin had to go back to check people in, so MCQ and I walked around...then broke out the clock since I hadn't taken any clock photos in awhile. In front of the grocery store we met this guy who was from Olympia, WA going to Evergreen. We walked up to the Purple Cow backpackers and got a bunch of photos there, then ended up going back to the skate park. By then MCQ had procured a board and was skating all around. He wasn't Tony Hawk, but was probably double the age of any other person there.
Back at the Treehouse Robin made a yummy Mexican dinner, finally, good Mexican food, haven't had that in awhile. Tomorrow MCQ and I are going to head south towards Queenstown.
