Between February 2002 and March 2003 I circumnavigated 12,504 miles around the Australian continent on my bicycle, or push bike as they say there. After that I went to New Zealand for three months and met up with a friend and ended up pushing the total mileage to 14,115.7 miles (22717.02 km). I spent 269 days on my bike, 272 days not on my bike, and getting 67 flat tires over those 17 months.
I started and ended my 13 month lap around Australia at Luna Park in St. Kilda/Melbourne.. The distance around Australia (including Tasmania) ended up being about 20,281km (12,600 miles).
One fun thing I did during my trip was to visit six "confluences", which is where a whole-numbered latitude/longitude mark intersects for The Degree Confluence Project.

Went off on our first dive at 6am this morning. A little hard to wake up but we all kind of struggled down to the water. Ate breakfast and then went back into the water for our last "training" dive. For that the camera guy was down with us and after we took our masks off and put them back on we were finished with the training. The camera guy got video of us taking turns holding the beer can and wearing sunglasses. After we came up we all let out a little cheer since we were certified divers. yay.
Moved to another reef in the afternoon, this one was a lot more active. There were fish everywhere below the boat. I went out snorkeling for awhile and took my first underwater pictures. There was marine life everywhere. The really big fish kept hanging out below the boat.
Later that afternoon Sun (my dive buddy) and I went out on our first dive. I had my camera with me and took a lot of photos. After you get below a certain depth you start to lose certain colors. Red is the first to go. Apparently your blood turns green if you get cut below water.
Later that night we went on a night dive. That was pretty interesting. We went everywhere, it was a bit spooky to say the least. It was a little easier to know where you are because there were green lights pointing down into the water from the bow and stern of the dive boat.
The night on the boat was really rough and I had to try my darndest to keep from throwing up. Made for a really sleepless night.
