Could not wake up and didn’t get on the trail until 8:30am. Phone was almost dead so I had to walk up the trail a bit and park the solar charge in a sunbeam while I packed stuff up.
I could tell that today was already going to be too hot for cutoffs so back to the gray shorts it was.
There were a lot of gnats flying in my face all morning. I couldn’t wait for the trail to start climbing out of the oak trees so the damn things would go away.
Stopped at a spring and made lunch/way early dinner. Read more of the Questlove book, it sure is good. A hiker I met last night said “yeah, books really eat up the miles in a day”.
Today was, I think, the first day of the entire trip where I didn’t talk to a single person, nor even had the chance. Once the trail was on the ridge I could see some lakes below with dirt roads to them.
At Lake Letsgetfuckedup I could hear faint voices yelling. It is Saturday night after all. I was surprised their voices carried that far up to the ridge where I was at.
After the climbing stopped I stashed my poles in my pack. I’ve kind of liked not hiking with them, the only time I really like them is going uphill. The rest of the time they are kind of a pain.
Got water from a spring and made camp on a ridge top. I have a nice view of Mt. Shasta. Unlike my camp last night, this one is totally exposed so I know I wouldn’t sleep in tomorrow.
